As founding president, <\/span>Alexis Familia<\/b> He faced the most basic challenges of the ADS: low membership, scarce resources, and poor organization. Despite these limitations, he managed to lay the foundations of the institution, organizing the first <\/span>Educational tastings with winery representatives<\/b> and creating the <\/span>official ADS logo<\/b>, designed by Laura. During his presidency, <\/span>Henry Rosado<\/b> worked hard to consolidate the structure of the association and the <\/span>vocational training<\/b> of the Dominican Sommeliers. He was key in the establishment of <\/span>relations with the Pan-American Sommeliers Alliance (APAS)<\/b> and, later, with the <\/span>SO<\/b>. With <\/span>Dario Rosario<\/b> At the helm, the ADS reached new levels of formalization. The leadership of <\/span>Riquermis Santana<\/b> marked a period of great international projection. Under his leadership, the Dominican Republic participated for the first time in the <\/span>Best Sommelier of the Americas Competition (2015)<\/b> and in the <\/span>World's Best Sommelier Competition (2016)<\/b>. In <\/span>2017<\/b>, achieved the official integration of the ADS to <\/span>APAS<\/b> and <\/span>SO<\/b>, and in <\/span>2018<\/b>, organized the <\/span>First National Sommelier Competition<\/b> endorsed by both entities. The current president, <\/span>Carlos Espino<\/b>, took over at a challenging time: the pandemic <\/span>COVID-19<\/b>Despite the restrictions, Espino managed to maintain institutional activity, organizing the <\/span>National Sommelier Competition 2020<\/b>In the following years, he strengthened the national and international projection of the ADS with events such as the <\/span>Best Sommelier of Spanish Wines Competition (2022)<\/b>, he <\/span>National Tasting Competition (2023)<\/b> and the <\/span>National Sommelier Competition (2024)<\/b>. Leadership and Evolution: ADS Presidents From 2003 to 2020\u2013present Alexis Familia (2003\u20132007): The Founding Stage As founding president, Alexis Familia faced the ADS\u2019s most basic challenges: low membership, scarce resources, and poor organization. Despite these limitations, he managed to lay the foundations for the institution, organizing the first educational tastings with winery representatives and creating the official ADS logo, designed by Laura. His leadership marked the beginning of the Sommelier movement in the country. Luis Henry Rosado (2007\u20132012): National and International Expansion During his presidency, Henry Rosado worked hard to consolidate the association's structure and the professional training of Dominican sommeliers. He was instrumental in establishing relations with the Pan-American Sommelier Alliance (APAS) and, later, with the ASI. In 2009, he organized the first Sommelier Competition in the Dominican Republic in collaboration with El Catador, opening a new era of competition and professional excellence. Dar\u00edo Rosario (2012\u20132014): Academic Drive and Legal Structure With Dar\u00edo Rosario at the helm, the ADS reached new levels of formalization. During his tenure, he secured sponsorships from major wine importers such as El Catador, MGC, \u00c1lvarez & S\u00e1nchez, and Vinos SA. This support made it possible, among other things, to organize the first Oenological Tour of France (2014). Rosario also managed the association's RNC, opened institutional bank accounts, and established a membership protocol. Riquermis Santana (2014\u20132020): International Consolidation Riquermis Santana's leadership marked a period of great international projection. Under his direction, the Dominican Republic participated for the first time in the Best Sommelier of the Americas Competition (2015) and the Best Sommelier of the World Competition (2016). In 2017, he achieved the official integration of the ADS into APAS and ASI, and in 2018, he organized the first National Sommelier Competition endorsed by both entities. In subsequent years, the ADS continued to participate in continental and global competitions, positioning the country on the global map of Sommellerie. Carlos Espino (2020\u2013present): Resilience and Modern Projection The current president, Carlos Espino, took office at a challenging time: the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the restrictions, Espino managed to maintain institutional activity, organizing the 2020 National Sommelier Competition. In the following years, he strengthened the national and international profile of the ADS with events such as the Best Spanish Wine Sommelier Competition (2022), the National Wine Tasting Competition (2023), and the National Sommelier Competition (2024). His focus has been on excellence, ongoing training, and strengthening the prestige of the profession.
